So - I’m saying it here first. I’ve left Superpower.
Tough choice. But this is one of the most exciting times in technology, and I want to build.
I’m back in Sydney, building Australia’s next unicorn in 18 months. This will happen.
And I need an insane team to make it happen.
Something I’ve been thinking about a lot: how do you build a true founding team?
You ask people to take a huge risk. Work incredibly hard. Care about every detail. Then give them a tiny percentage of the company with terms that make it hard to actually benefit.
I find it hard to ask that much of someone without giving it back.
Your first hires shape everything. The product, the culture, the decisions you’ll live with for years. They bring in the next exceptional people. The company becomes what it is because they were there.
The ownership should reflect that.
So I’ve created the largest employee options pool I’ve personally seen.
The team’s options pool is the same size as my ownership.
That means more dilution for me. I’m comfortable with that. I want us to build something massive, and I want the people building it with me to have a meaningful share of what we create.
But the equity is only part of it.
Can you make a big decision without waiting for me? Can you tell me I’m wrong and actually change the direction? Do you have the full context to make those calls?
That part will test me too. Everyone wants exceptional people until those people make a decision they wouldn’t have made themselves.
I want people who see things I don’t. Who push me. Who take an idea somewhere I wouldn’t have thought to go.
And I need to give them room to do that.
The expectations will be incredibly high. So will the compensation, the ownership and the trust.
If I’m asking you to spend the next 18 months going all in with me, the offer should reflect that.
That’s the founding team I want to build.
P.S If you know exceptional engineers & designers who are in or are willing to move to Sydney, Australia - please let me know. It’s a beautiful city and I’m sure we’ll be the next unicorn in that city in the next 18 months.
